Ways to get here:

We are only a short distance from both the Library of Birmingham in Centenary Square and Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in Victoria Square. You can find us on the other side of the Ring Road, please use the crossings and take care as the road is busy.

From Victoria Square

Head along Chamberlain Way, keeping Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BMAG) directly on your right. Cross over at Great Charles Street Queensway, a dual carriageway located at the rear of BMAG. From there, head straight on along Summer Row. Fleet Street is the second road on the right and you’ll find The Coffin Works just a short way down it on your right. Keep an eye out for the teal ‘MUSEUM’ banner and hanging sign.

From Centenary Square

Follow the path down the right-hand side of Baskerville House until you come to the dual carriageway, Great Charles Street Queensway. Use the crossings to cross the dual carriageway onto Summer Row. Bear slightly left and head down Fleet Street. The Coffin Works is just a short way down it on your right. Keep an eye out for the teal ‘MUSEUM’ banner and hanging sign.

Our nearest train stations are Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Snow Hill. The Jewellery Quarter metro is a little bit further away.

Birmingham New Street

We are a 10-minute walk from Birmingham New Street. Visitors should follow the tram line to the left as you exit the station and head up Pinfold Street. Cross Victoria Square, then Chamberlain Square, keeping Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BMAG) directly on your right as you do so. Cross over at Great Charles Street Queensway, a dual carriageway located at the rear of BMAG. From there, head straight on along Summer Row. Fleet Street is the second road on the right and you’ll find the Coffin Works just a short way down it on your right. Keep an eye out for the teal ‘MUSEUM’ banner and hanging sign.

Birmingham Snow Hill

If travelling from Birmingham Snow Hill station, this is roughly another 10-minute walk. Leave the station and turn right on to Colmore Row. Head down that road for approximately 300 metres until you reach a crossroads with traffic lights, turn right here onto Newhall Street. Head down Newhall Street until you reach Great Charles Street Queensway (the dual carriageway). From there, head straight on, continuing along Newhall Street. Carry on walking for around 50 metres and Fleet Street is the second road on the left. The Coffin Works is located at the top end of the road on the left. Keep an eye out for the teal ‘MUSEUM’ banner and hanging sign.

Alternatively, all the bus services in the direction of the Coffin Works (stated below) leave from by the Cathedral in Colmore Row, and so offer a connection from Snow Hill Station.

A short bus hop from the city centre

From the town centre you can catch the 82/87/89 services on Colmore Row by St Philips Cathedral. Get off on Great Charles Street Queensway. Cross over at the lights, and walk down Summer Row, Fleet Street is the second road on the right. You will walk past UCB and The Shakespeare pub (which is on the corner of Lionel Street). The museum is not far from the top of Fleet Street on the right hand side. Keep an eye out for the teal ‘MUSEUM’ banner and hanging sign.

Alternatively, catch the 101 from St Phillip’s Cathedral, and alight on Newhall Street at the end of Fleet Street. Head up Fleet Street and you’ll find the museum at the far end of the street on the left.

These distances are covered by the £1 fare.

Jewellery Quarter buses

Services 8A and 8C (Inner Circle) and 101 from Birmingham City Centre (Colmore Row) and Handsworth serve the Warstone Lane clock in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter (10-minute walk to Coffin Works).

Services 16 and 74 run along Constitution Hill and Great Hampton Street stopping close to Vyse Street (20-minute walk to Coffin Works).

The closest metro stop to the Coffin Works is Town Hall which is in Zone 1. Please be advised, St Pauls and Jewellery Quarter stops are actually both further to walk between the stop and the museum.

Please be aware, due to the Paradise development, there will be a series of road diversions in place which will have an affect on Fleet Street where we are based. Please leave yourself a little bit of extra travel time!

From the M6 Junction 6

Leave the M6 at junction 6 and follow signs for City Centre (A38). After approximately 2 miles the road becomes elevated. Keep following the A38 and go under the tunnel (St Chad’s Circus Queensway) keeping in the left-hand lane.

As you emerge from the tunnel, filter left following signs for The International Convention Centre. DO NOT GO UNDER THE NEXT TUNNEL. Continue along Great Charles Street Queensway, stay in the right hand lane and follow the road around to the right into Summer Row. Go straight at the traffic lights, continuing down the hill to the traffic island by the UCB building, where you will turn 360 degrees.

When returning up the hill, please note the exit from the dual carriageway (B4135) left onto Fleet Street, as shown in the video below, is currently closed. Instead, continue along the dual carriageway, follow it round to the left onto Great Charles Street Queensway. At the crossroads, turn left onto Newhall Street. Take the first left onto Lionel Street. Follow the one-way system up Lionel Street, round to the right onto Summer Row and round to the right again onto Fleet Street where you will find us about 20 metres down on the right.

From the M5 Junction 3

Take the junction 3 exit from the M5 and follow sign A456 to Birmingham West and Central. After approximately 5 miles you will pass St Chad’s Court (NHS) on your left – take the left-hand filter lane onto Monument Road (B4124) at the crossroads (there is a brown sign for the Jewellery Quarter). Follow along Monument Road until Ladywood Circus, take the 2nd exit onto A4540 (signed to Jewellery Quarter). At the next traffic island, take the 3rd exit onto Summer Hill Road (B4135). Stay on Summer Hill Road over the next island, pass the UCB building on your left.

Continue along the dual carriageway, follow it round to the left onto Great Charles Street Queensway. At the crossroads, turn left onto Newhall Street. Take the first left onto Lionel Street. Follow the one way system up Lionel Street, round to the right onto Summer Row and round to the right again onto Fleet Street where you will find us about 20 metres down on the right. Fleet Street is a one-way street.

There is on-street parking (2 hours no return) available on Fleet Street at a cost of £2.20 for 2 hours. In surrounding streets there is a 4 hour stay (£4.50 for 4 hours).

Please be aware that the side of Fleet Street along the canal is for Permit Holders only – you will get a ticket!

On-street parking is FREE in the Jewellery Quarter after 6pm, as well as on Sundays and on bank holidays.

There are two Disabled parking bays for Blue Badge holders located on Fleet Street, to the right of the main entrance to the Coffin Works.

The closest Coach and Lorry Car Park is on Brewery Street.

We are a 6-minute along the towpath from Cambrian Wharf where there’s 2 days or 14 days mooring available.

The closest bridge to the Coffin Works is Islington Place Bridge, which is next to Farmers Bridge Lock 6.
