Transient-Art held an Art and Design exhibition from 28 April until 24 July 2015. Each of the artists and designers who contributed had visited the museum and taken part in a guided tour, and then responded by producing a new artwork inspired by their visit.
In addition to the artwork on display in the gallery area, Transient-Art held a special event during the nation-wide Museums at Night programme, on Saturday 16th May 2015. Artwork intertwined with the exhibits, temporarily becoming part of the museum for the evening.
The artwork embraced the nature and thematic of the museum, juxtaposing history with contemporary examination. This special event also saw fine art and fashion students from Birmingham Metropolitan College join in and show work they had made in response to the museum, with a live fashion show in the museum’s courtyard.

Transient-Art is a small group of West Midlands based artists, whose purpose is to creatively engage with contemporary artistic practice, opening up a dialogue between their work and the audience in non-traditional spaces. Their concept and group’s name references both their use of spaces which they temporarily inhabit, but also the differing artists who they invite to show alongside them, keeping everything fresh, alive and challenging, whilst also providing audiences with variety and differing viewpoints. Visit their website here.
The wonderful Jon Wilkes curated the GAME OVER exhibition.
The project was funded by Arts Council England and through sponsorship from the National Association of Funeral Directors and William H Painter Funeral Directors.
