  • Two children stand in the courtyard holding small "The City Beautiful" blue plaques.

Thursday 16 August 1pm – 3pm
FREE make-and- take workshop for families in partnership with Birmingham Civic Society as part of The City Beautiful project! The session will be lead by the wonderful Mrs History team!

The activity will take place in the Green Room which is on the site of the original casting shed at Newman Brothers! Follow in the footsteps of Newman Brothers employees as you learn about sand casting techniques and make and decorate your very own name plate out of a magical combination of sand, plaster and paint to take home! This activity inspired by the Blue Plaques erected by Birmingham Civic Society in honour the places and people which have made amazing Birmingham the place it is today!

This is a drop-in activity and does not require booking. However if you would also like to join a guided tour, please pre-book to avoid disappointment by calling 0121 233 4790 or emailing

Do we have to be there for 1 or can we arrive after this time? Thank you

    • Josie Wall says:

      Hi Zoey!

It’s a drop in session so you don’t need to be there at 1pm, just as long as you arrive before 3pm.

      Hope we’ll see you tomorrow,

      Operations and Volunteer Assistant

Is the ‘Casting Creations’ activity just for kids?

    • Josie Wall says:

      Hi Jas,

Although the workshop is aimed at families with children, a couple of adults came to the last one and had a great time so you would be very welcome!

      Best Wishes,
