We’ve missed you!

After six months of temporary closure, we’re excited to announce that we are finally opening our doors on 30th October, which coincides with our sixth-birthday weekend. During our closed period we have been working very hard to ensure that we can re-open safely and responsibly, adhering and responding to any updated government guidelines.

Our re-opening is supported by a Sustaining Engagement With Collections Grant from the Museums Association and Esmee Fairbairn. It is enabling us to change our visitor experience and develop a mobile-museum tour which will act as an aid for visitors on self-guided visits.

All of our pre-visit info will be updated and as clear as possible to let visitors know what they need to do to enjoy the museum safely. At present, we are asking visitors to:

  1. Wear masks
  2. Book in advance
  3. Use credit/ debit cards instead of cash
  4. Not visit if they are feeling ill or if anybody in their household is showing symptoms
  5. Only visit with other people in accordance with current government guidelines
  6. Tickets will be timed, so please arrive on time for your allocated slot, but please do not arrive ahead of time.
  7. There will be a one-way system to ensure safety.

Although government guidelines stipulate that guided tours of up to 30 can take place, with Covid risk assessments in place, our building only allows a maximum of six people to experience the museum on a tour at any one time. That’s why we have altered our visitor experience by changing to a self-guided model for the foreseeable future. This will allow more people to enjoy the museum and interact safely with even more of our volunteers.

We will be still offering private tours (please contact us directly for more information) and we very much hope to be able to develop a hybrid model whereby tours will once again be available for a standard visit.

Please also note that this is a phased re-opening and initially we will only be open for visits Friday to Sunday.

Tickets will be on sale from 1st October via Please be aware that the availability and structure of our visitor experience may change at short notice, where required by Government guidance. Most of all, we ask you to bear with us as we can continue to adapt to these new circumstances.

We are very much looking forward to opening our doors once again. Thank you for your patience and support during what has been a very challenging time.
